Capcom just committed to a release date for the Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds — and it is earlier than most players expected. During today's Nintendo Direct, the publisher confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on Friday, December 4, 2026, with pre-orders opening on the Nintendo eShop on October 19, 2026.

Already sinking time into the game on PC or console? Our Monster Hunter Wilds early game build guide covers the four beginner weapons and the Chatacabra-Balahara mixed set that will get you through your first 10 hours. The Switch 2 edition ships with everything you would have ground for over the past year — no catch-up grind required.

Pricing and Editions

Three SKUs are available at launch, all priced in USD:

  • Standard Edition (digital) — $39.99. For the first two weeks of pre-orders (October 19 through December 3), this drops to an early adopter price of $29.99.
  • Gold Edition (digital) — $79.99. Includes the base game plus the Cosmetic DLC Collection — a 126-item bundle of layered armor and cosmetic packs — plus premium bonuses.
  • Deluxe Edition (physical Game-Key Card) — $39.99. Includes the base game plus the Deluxe Pack. The card slip contains a download code for the Deluxe Pack DLC valid through December 4, 2028.

According to the Gematsu summary of Capcom's official announcement, both digital editions include the Layered Armor — Guild Knight and Talisman — Hope Charm pre-order bonuses.

What is Included on Day One

The Switch 2 port is a complete package, not a barebones port. According to the official Capcom Switch 2 page, the game ships with Title Update 1 (Ver. 1.01) and every free title update released on other platforms through December 4. That includes:

  • The Grand Hub social space
  • Returning flagship monsters like Mizutsune and Lagiacrus
  • The Final Fantasy XIV Online crossover collaboration
  • All performance and quality-of-life patches, including the offline event quest support that arrived in Ver.1.042 earlier this summer

Progression syncs through normal Capcom cross-save — but for hunters who have been waiting for a portable version, the bigger story is the local and online multiplayer.

Local Wireless Co-op is a Switch 2 Exclusive

The most interesting feature confirmed for the Switch 2 build is wireless local co-op. Two players with two Switch 2 systems and two copies of the game can hunt together offline, no Nintendo Switch Online subscription required. As Nintendo Wire noted, this is a direct callback to the 3DS Monster Hunter games — and a meaningful long-term value, since online services for the PS5, Xbox, and PC versions will eventually go dark and turn those builds into solo affairs.

Cross-platform play with PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S is also fully supported, so Switch 2 hunters will be able to party up with friends on any system through standard online matchmaking.

Performance Expectations

Nintendo Direct footage showed steady performance on Switch 2 hardware, but the visuals run at a noticeably lower resolution than the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. That tradeoff is reasonable given the power gap, and Capcom is leaning on the game's art direction and monster animations to carry the screen. There is no confirmed performance mode, resolution mode, or FPS target locked in yet — Capcom says final specs will be detailed closer to launch.

Ascendance Expansion is Coming in 2027

Capcom also confirmed during the Direct that Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance — the major expansion with a new map, monsters, and story content — will launch on Switch 2 on the same day as the other platforms when it releases in 2027. There is no confirmed date yet, but Capcom is treating Switch 2 as a first-class platform for the expansion, not a delayed port.

A free Prologue Demo is also planned before launch. Capcom has not committed to a specific date, only that it is coming "later."

What to Watch Next

  • October 19, 2026 — Pre-orders open on the Nintendo eShop. The $29.99 early adopter discount on Standard lasts until December 3.
  • Late November 2026 — Expect the Prologue Demo and final performance specs.
  • December 4, 2026 — Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Switch 2 worldwide.
  • 2027 — Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance launches simultaneously on all platforms.

If you have been holding off on Monster Hunter Wilds specifically because you wanted a Switch version, the wait is almost over.
