Palworld officially left Early Access on July 10, 2026, and version 1.0 is less a patch and more a relaunch. Pocketpair delivered two entirely new endgame regions, 72 new Pals, two new progression systems, reworked Tower Bosses, 13 new weapons, a rebuilt raid system, and hundreds of balance and quality-of-life changes. The official patch notes span roughly 27 pages.
If you played during Early Access and bounced off because it felt incomplete, this is the version that changes that. If you're brand new, welcome — you picked the right time. Here's everything that changed, what to prioritize, and how to get the most out of Palworld 1.0.

Sunreach: The Floating Islands
Sunreach is a set of floating islands that appeared above Palpagos, kept aloft by the power of Paldium. This is where you'll find brand-new Pals, Tower Bosses, and Soralite — an ore exclusive to the region that can only be mined with specialized equipment.
Soralite is your gateway to 1.0's high-end arsenal. The new weapons crafted from Soralite Ingots include the Laser Sword, Drone Launcher (up to 9 autonomous drones at once), and Plasma Rifle (electrical arcs that chain between enemies). If you want the best gear in the game, you need to get to Sunreach.
The floating islands are built around vertical exploration — think gliders, grappling, and carefully planned jumps between platforms. The Wing Pack, a new standalone glider that burns Wing Cells for free flight without a mount, makes traversal here much smoother. Grab one before you start exploring seriously.
A major bridge connects Sunreach to the World Tree endgame, so consider this region your transition zone from mid-game to end-game content.
The World Tree: Endgame Destination
The World Tree has been visible in the distance since Early Access launch but was always out of reach. In 1.0, it finally opens — and it's the climax of the main story and the toughest content in the game.
Two unique resources live here:
- Paloxite — an endgame-only ore for top-tier crafting
- Radiant Gems — the fuel for the new Awakening system
The World Tree also holds new Pals, materials, dungeons, and bosses. The mystery surrounding the Tower battles is finally unveiled, and the game's story reaches its conclusion here. But don't rush in unprepared — this area is genuinely punishing, and Pocketpair designed it as a capstone for players who've invested in their builds.
72 New Pals: The Biggest Roster Expansion Yet
Version 1.0 adds 72 new Pals — 47 completely original species and 25 variants of existing Pals — bringing the total roster to 287. You'll encounter them across Sunreach, the World Tree, and the reworked zones.
The old map also got attention: seven new smaller islands across three biomes (volcano, desert, ruins), Ancient Ruins with minigames and schematics, Watchtowers that reveal the map and double as fast-travel points, and new settlements with NPCs and sub-missions. The three Wildlife Sanctuaries have been fully reworked into protected areas patrolled by defense drones — sneak past the searchlights or go in loud.
Breeding Overhaul: Mutation and New Cakes
Breeding got significantly deeper with the Mutation system. There's now a small chance that a mutated Pal will hatch from an egg when breeding. Mutated Pals have higher stats than normal breeding results and a unique passive ability — which adds a real gambling element to endgame breeding.
Four new cakes let you steer your breeding outcomes:
| Cake | Effect |
|---|---|
| Mushroom Cake | Slightly increases chance of better stats at hatching |
| Vegetable Cake | Produces two eggs per breeding attempt |
| Deluxe Vegetable Cake | Increases mutation likelihood and stat growth |
| Special Cake | Improves inheritance of parents' passive skills |
The grind has also been seriously trimmed: the Capture Bonus now requires 5 captures instead of 12, and max Condensing requires 48 copies instead of 116. This alone saves dozens of hours for completionist players.
Awakening: Pushing Pals Past Their Limits
Awakening is a new endgame enhancement system. You gather Radiant Gems hidden in the depths of the World Tree and use them to unlock the hidden power of your favorite Pals, pushing them beyond their natural limits.
Key things to know:
- Designed for endgame play, not early game — don't stress about it until you've reached the World Tree
- Sits alongside existing systems (Souls, passives, Condensation) as an additional layer
- The stats screen now separately displays which bonuses come from Souls vs. Awakening
- "World Tree" passive skills pair huge bonuses with real drawbacks — like +50% Attack in exchange for lower Defense. This opens up much bolder build possibilities than before
Combat Overhaul: Weapons, Tower Bosses, and Controls
Combat feels snappier across the board. Dodges turn into a dash while you attack or aim, reloading is no longer interrupted by rolls, and you can now order your Pal to attack a specific target. These sound small, but they fundamentally change the flow of combat — you're no longer animation-locked into bad situations.
13 New Weapons
The new weapon lineup, many crafted from Soralite Ingots, includes:
- Mechanical Bow
- Combat SMG
- Prototype Shotgun
- Heavy Assault Rifle
- Tactical Grenade Launcher
- Laser Sword
- Beam Scatter
- Drone Launcher (up to 9 autonomous drones)
- Plasma Rifle (chain lightning between enemies)
The new Extra Weapon Holster lets you carry up to 6 weapons simultaneously. Combined with the new Ancient armor series, you have far more loadout flexibility than in Early Access.
Tower Bosses Reworked
Tower Bosses now have unique arenas and a 5-minute timer (down from 10), with stats adjusted to match. This makes them faster, more intense encounters rather than endurance slogs. The reward structure was also rebalanced to make them worth repeating.
Partner Skills Rebuilt
Over 200 Partner Skills were added or changed. Most importantly, effects from the same species no longer stack within a team. Running five identical support Pals is out — you now build teams around complementary roles. Skill descriptions also display specific percentage values so you can actually evaluate how powerful an effect is.
Base Building and Automation Updates
Base management got major upgrades:
- Water Building: The Aquatic Construction Kit finally lets you build on water — seaside bases are now viable
- Wave Raids: Raids become a wave-based system with rewards. A Negotiator can cancel an incoming attack for gold, and defense structures no longer consume ammo
- Work Suitability Level 10: Every Pal was rebalanced around a ten-level Work Suitability scale (up from 5). Each rank-up improves one Work Suitability, and max rank still improves all of them
- Improved Work Pals: Better AI, compact Ancient facilities, storage controls, and Clinics create stronger production bases
Tips for Returning Players
If you played Early Access and are coming back for 1.0, here's what I'd prioritize:
1. Start fresh. Pocketpair recommends a new save to experience the reworked story and progression. Your old save technically works, but you'll miss the redesigned flow.
2. Capture, don't grind. With the Capture Bonus reduced to 5 captures and catch rates improved overall, the optimal early-game strategy is to catch broadly rather than farm XP. You'll level faster and build a deeper Pal pool simultaneously.
3. Don't hoard identical Pals. Since Partner Skills from the same species no longer stack, having five copies of your favorite support Pal is now a waste of team slots. Build for synergy instead.
4. Rush to Sunreach. The Soralite weapons are a massive power jump over anything from the old map. Get the specialized mining equipment as soon as you can and start farming Soralite.
5. Save your Radiant Gems. Don't spend them on Awakening the moment you reach the World Tree. Get a feel for which Pals you're actually building around long-term, then invest.
6. Try the new cakes. Breeding with the Deluxe Vegetable Cake gives you a shot at mutated Pals — even a single good mutation can outclass hours of normal breeding. Stock up before serious breeding sessions.
FAQ
How many new Pals were added in Palworld 1.0? 72 new Pals in total — 47 original species and 25 variants, bringing the total roster to 287.
Is Palworld 1.0 free for existing owners? Yes. The update is free for everyone who already owns the game. Pocketpair did not raise the base price of $29.99, which is available on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Game Pass.
Should I start a new save for 1.0? Pocketpair recommends it. Existing saves still work, but the reworked story, new progression curve, and redesigned map are best experienced fresh. You can always go back to an old save later.
What is the max level in Palworld 1.0? The level cap was raised from 65 to 80, with new technologies tied to the ancient civilization unlocking alongside it.
How does the Mutation system work? When breeding Pals, there's a small chance a mutated offspring will hatch. Mutated Pals have higher stats than normal results and a unique passive skill. The Deluxe Vegetable Cake increases mutation likelihood.
Did the Nintendo lawsuit affect Palworld 1.0? The lawsuit was narrowed to older versions of the game only. Pocketpair already changed several systems (like how Pals are summoned) to work around the patents. The 1.0 version sits mostly outside the lawsuit's scope, and the case is ongoing but looking weaker for Nintendo.
What's Next?
Palworld crossed 40 million total players with the 1.0 launch, and Pocketpair shows no signs of slowing down. The developer described this as "the biggest update in the game's history" — and with 27 pages of patch notes, that's not marketing hyperbole.

And if you're also diving into new August releases, our Beast of Reincarnation Launch Day Guide covers Game Freak's action RPG that launched today.
The core loop of Palworld hasn't changed — catch Pals, build your base, automate production, raid, upgrade everything — but 1.0 makes every step of that loop feel more rewarding. The new content and smoother systems make it harder to put down than ever. Just don't blame me when "one more dungeon" turns into three hours.
